2. 1-5/8" x 1/4" x 3/32" thick - cut two
3. 5-1/4" x 1/4" x 3/32" thick—cut two
4. 1 3/8" x 1/4" x 3/32" thick - cut two
5. 6" x 1/2" x 1/8" thick —cut two
6. 4-1/2" x 3/8" x 3/32" thick - cut two
7. 3" x 3/8" x 3/32"thick —cut four, as template


So many readers admired the picnic table that was featured in an old Backyard Barbecue scene that we decided to make one. We despatched the projects team into the workshop (well, onto the kitchen table actually) and they emerged clutching the version you see here.

It looks great outside a cabin or, if you prefer a more patio-friendly look, just varnish instead of staining.



Form an oblong with the pieces (2) and (3). Glue cross pieces (4) 11⁄4" from each end.

Lay pieces (1) flat, leaving 1/16" between each piece.

Glue the oblong on to pieces (1).

Glue legs (7) to underneath of table.

Glue piece (6) seat supports, 3/4" up from bottom of leg.

Glue the seats (5) in place.
